February is American Heart Month and the Mattoon Area Family YMCA offers a program that helps participants improve and maintain their heart health.
Healthy Hearts is a three-month program that promotes a healthier lifestyle through movement. The class is held at 11 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in the Wellness Center at the Mattoon Area Family YMCA.
As part of the program, participants will receive help from a trainer to obtain cardiovascular, balance, and resistance training. With the support of friends, they will improve overall heart health and gain a healthier lifestyle. This class proves to be a great transition from cardiac rehabilitation. According to the American Heart Association, people who report greater levels of improvement and emotional well-being often build new habits around eating better, tracking and managing their symptoms, and exercising. During the healthy hearts program, participants will learn how to live a healthy and happy lifestyle.
The healthy hearts program is free for all members. There is an $85 fee for non-members that covers three months of the program. Financial aid is available.
