FAQ

• Does my unit/curriculum drive my PBL?

• No. All PBL’s will be standards driven.

• How many PBL’s are required?

• Each grade level will complete at least 1 PBL for the 2018-2019 school year

• What are the steps to start the process for my team?

• Your team will complete the MCSD PBL form (to the best of your ability) and turn it into your building PBL facilitator at least 2 weeks before your first planning day. They will vet your idea and discuss with you any questions they may have.

• When does my PBL have to be completed by?

• The PBL has to be initiated by March 9th and completed by end of year.

• What if I am a specials teacher (SPED, ELL, PE, Para etc)?

• You are not required to complete your own PBL, rather support the grade/ core teams.

• Will my team have a budget?

• Yes, each team will be given a PBL budget (TBD by your building principal). This budget is to be used on any and all items that would relate to your PBL.

• Do I have to change my classroom management system?

• Not necessarily, but one of the foundations of a successful STEM Classroom is cooperate structures. You will want to use those structures to guide your students throughout the year.

• Do I have to change the look of my classroom?

• Not necessarily, but you will want to find spaces for different types of work (group work, independent work, partner work, tinkering space etc).

• Will my team be designing the same PBL along side the other elementary school?

• No. This was an idea in the beginning stages of planning, however upon learning more about this PBL system the designing of an identical PBL with another school will not work.

• Does my team or academic coach contact panel members or experts?

• No. During your vetting and planning process, the PBL facilitator will make all contacts.
