The GATE Department coordinates the MCSD District Spelling Bee every year. Participating schools first hold their own school-level Spelling Bee, following the rules and word lists of the Scripps National Spelling Bee; the top three spellers from each school-level Spelling Bee are invited to compete at the MCSD District Spelling Bee. The winner of the MCSD District Spelling Bee is then eligible to compete against other Colorado District Spelling Bee winners in the Denver Post Colorado State Spelling Bee, and the GATE department sponsors the student by paying their entry fee.
The 2024 MCSD District Spelling Bee will be held on Wednesday, February 7th, 2024 at Columbine Middle School, beginning at 6pm.
The top three spellers from Johnson Elementary, Cottonwood Elementary, Pomona Elementary, Northside Elementary, Columbine Middle School, Centennial Middle School and Olathe Middle School will compete to be the winner of the MCSD District Spelling Bee.
