Middle school writing is devoted to practicing and growing in three writing types: narrative, argument, and informational writing. Students will utilize the writing process to craft short and extended pieces of writing, including daily quick write notebook practice as well as polished (and eventually published) writing developed over the course of an entire unit. Complexity of writing techniques naturally builds throughout the sixth-eighth grade standards.
The grades six-eight reading standards explore narrative and informational writing with growing text complexity. A focus on reading comprehension through literary analysis and word study is primarily assessed through writing.j
