June Staff Spotlight
As the youngest member of the Griffin Gazette’s leadership team, María Vásquez has already established herself as a key voice in the newsroom. Serving as Lead Copy Editor, she helps ensure every article meets the publication’s standards while contributing her own writing on politics and pop culture. Outside the newsroom, María enjoys cooking, listening to music, and playing padel. Whether refining others’ work or producing her own, María brings curiosity, attention to detail, and a fresh perspective that continue to strengthen the Griffin Gazette.
"María Vasquez is defined by her brilliance. Over the past year, she has emerged as one of the brightest students I have taught in a Literature class, standing out as one of those rare individuals who excel in both analytical and creative writing. Outside of the classroom, she is noted for being considerate and committed, with both everyone she meets and everything she does. I have had the privilege of seeing these academic qualities and personal traits bridged over the past two months as María has stepped into the role of Editor-in-Chief (on top of her role as copy editor). In that time, her giftedness in these areas-—analysis, creativity, considerateness & commitment—has elevated the Griffin Gazette to new heights."
— Dillon Shelton, Teacher
"María Alejandra brings a unique kind of presence that naturally draws people in, not just for being an exceptional student in the newspaper elective, but for the way she makes others feel. She has a natural warmth and an ability to connect with people, listening with genuine care and making everyone around her feel valued. The way she expresses herself, both in conversation and in writing, comes from a place of real emotion and depth. Being around her is comforting and inspiring at the same time, and it’s clear that anyone who gets to know her gains someone truly special in their life."
