Five: Children that will be turning five on or before September 30th will need to register for kindergarten

WHEN

Mecklenburg County Public Schools has a designated Pre-K Registration Day in early March for you to come in to the school and register your child for Pre-K. This is done on the same day as kindergarten registration. Be on the look out for FaceBook posts, notifications on our mcpsweb.org site, and flyers in area businesses. Headstart also attends our designated Pre-K Registration Day.  You can also reach out to Head Start directly for registration information.

Did you miss the registration day on March 6, 2023?  No problem! Please contact the school your child will attend for more information on how to register!

Please join us at the school that is within your school zone. If you are unsure which school your child should attend, please contact the elementary school you believe to be correct and give them your physical address.

WHAT

You should bring the following information with you when you register your child:

HOW

Pre-K acceptance is based on several factors. You will need to answer some questions about your child's development while you are registering and your child will take a short assessment. If registration is extremely busy, you may be asked to schedule a time to come back to complete these items.

ACCEPTANCE

Acceptance letters will be mailed out in early May.  Applications will continue to be accepted as long as there are available spots.

Early childhood Special Education

WHO

Birth-Five Year Olds

WHEN

Anytime during the year.

HOW

For children with disabilities, Virginia's public school system offers early childhood services as part of their special education programs. These Early Childhood Special Education services provide children with disabilities the services needed to attain skills that are comparable to their typically developing peers.

SERVICES

Children would qualify for Early Childhood Special Education services can be serviced in many ways. Sometimes the teacher comes into the child's home or daycare to provide services. Other times, the child may come to school to receive services. This determination is made during the Individualized Education Plan process.

Please contact Mary Hodges, Director of Student Services, mhodges@mcpsweb.org or the elementary school in your attendance zone if you feel your child needs to be assessed.
