I missed the registration date, can my child still register for Pre-K?
Yes, if you missed the registration date in March, you can reach out to the school your child will attend and they can set up a time for you to bring in necessary paperwork and take the assessment. Sometimes, if there is already a waiting list, they will document your contact information and call you back to complete the assessment later.
Is Head Start part of Pre-K?
Head Start is not affiliated with the school division. Head Start currently has classrooms in Chase City and Boydton. They do have transportation to these locations. Contact Head Start for more information.
Are all the schools/programs accepting three year olds?
No. Currently, Chase City Elementary and Head Start are accepting 3 year olds.
Is my child guaranteed a spot in Pre-K?
Unfortunately, since we have a limited number of spots at each school, we can not guarantee there will be a spot for your child. However, there are MANY wonderful daycare facilities in our area. We're happy to give you facility names that are in your area.
We live outside of Mecklenburg County. Can my child attend Pre-K?
We only accept Mecklenburg County residents for our Pre-K program due to funding.
Can my child ride the school bus?
If your child is/will be four before September 30th, they will ride the school bus with students in grades PK-5. If your child is/will be three before September 30th, they must ride in a vehicle that has a 5-point harness. MCPS will provide transportation. You also have the option to provide your own transportation.
When will I receive the acceptance letter?
Acceptance letters will go out in early May. If your child is not accepted at that time, they will receive a wait-list letter (see below).
I received a wait list letter, what does that mean?
If you receive a wait list letter, then your child has not been accepted into the Pre-K program. However, you could receive a letter of acceptance in the future if another child declines their acceptance.
