We are half-way through the first marking period and the learning is in full swing at TPMS and in the TPMS Magnet Program. Our highschool math classes (Algebra and Geometry), our magnet science classes, and our computer science classes are all learning amazing things and the kids are thriving.
This month, we are spot-lighting Mr. Booker's 6th grade Computer Science classes where students recently learned about computing by discecting laptops to see all the different components.
October is a very busy month. We have the PSAT for 8th graders on the 14th, a Highschool information night on the 6th, a PTSA meeting about the TPMS math curriculum on the 13th, an 8th grade field at the end of the month, and more. High School Showcases
8th Grade Familes, this is the first year that students must apply to their regional high school program for special programs.
On Tuesday, October 6th, TPMS will offer a High School Information night from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm in the cafeteria.
Then, on Tuesday, October 13th, during lunches, Region 1 High School representatives will come to TPMS to meet with students.
Throughout October, high school programs around the county and in every region will offer showcases describing their programs.
This process is new to all of us, so come, ask questions, and make sure you know which program to apply to, and how!
Free Coding Classes
Free Coding Classes
Steel City Codes, a nonprofit organization dedicated towards STEM education, is offering free fall classes for students in 6th - 8th grade in the DC metropolitan area through which high school volunteers will be teaching computer science to students.
As of now, the classes will be held online. Students will learn throughout the year using our specially-designed curriculum and will complete a fun final project at the end of the unit! Different levels are offered for a variety of ages, for grades 6 through 8.

TPMS offers a wide variety of clubs and athletic programs to meet the diverse interests of our students. Regular participation in high-quality after school programs has been shown to improve social and emotional skills, including prosocial behavior, intrinsic motivation, focus, and self-confidence.
At TPMS, our After School Program is supported by dedicated staff and community partnerships that help deliver a robust and enriching experience. Activities are offered through either TPMS Athletics or TPMS After School Activities Please note that registration processes vary by activity, so it’s important to review the specific instructions for each one.

October 13 from 7 to 8:30pm
Every month the TPMS Parent, Teacher, Student Association features a key aspect of the TPMS Educational Program.
In October, the focus will be on the Math Program featuring Chris Colwander, the new head of the TPMS Math Department.
Chris will discuss the new Desmos-based math curriculum, the changes to the Md High School Math curriculum and how that will affect us here at TPMS, and then he and I will discuss the process by which students are identified and screened for acceleration.

WE SHINE
WE SHINE
We Shine Club 2025-2026.pdfWhat is WE SHINE? It's hard to describe. Some say it is a combination Talent Show/ Science Fair. Some say it is an Everything-but-the-Kitchen-Sink -Showcase. It is both those things, and more. It is a night where departments, clubs, and, most-importantly, students, share the way they shine.
Students work on Passion projects, from any discipline, all year long, every Thursday, in the WE SHINE club, and showcase their talents at the WE SHINE event in May.

Congratulations to the 7 clever TPMS'ers who figured out all three clues in last month's puzzle. All seven found a credible connection to the three puzzles, but only Alex Spencer, our reigning champion, correctly figured out that the answer to each clue was the name of an Actor in a recent Summer movie.
