Hello Magnet Families!
The TPMS Math Team had an epic two months, full of fun, challenge and success! In February, 14 students represented TPMS at Chapter Mathcounts. The team took 3rd place overall, with 8 students moving on to state. Coleman H was a triple threat, and took home trophies for the team, individual and countdown rounds. In March, TPMS had approximately 30 students, both JV and varsity, competing at the Montgomery Blair Math Tournament and took home a range of individual and team awards, including top team overall. On March 14, eight TPMS students competed at State Mathcounts – Takoma ranked as #1 team overall! We also had two students win individual trophies, including Joanna L in 4th place. Joanna moves on to the National Mathcounts Competition in May to represent the state of Maryland. Way to go, Takoma math team!
Also in March, TPMS celebrated Pi Day. Hundreds of students learned digits of pi, created pi art, and answered questions to demonstrate their knowledge of pi. The school winner in the digits of pi contest was Miley P, who learned an astonishing 533 digits of pi – rock on, Miley! Special thanks to the TPMS PTA for funding the treats and prizes that helped make Pi Day such a success. 😊
