Hello Magnet Families!
Since the December update was late, we won't have a new update until February. However, I wanted to add a few tidbits to this update so you can still get a flavor of what is happening here at TPMS!
First is a video by Mr Moses showing all the cool things his students have been making in their programming class.
At the bottom of the page, you can find numerous pictures since December, including our amazing Winter Concert, staff-student Volleyball game, Ms. Palmaira's chicken dissection, and more.
The puzzle is still good until the end of January, and a new one is coming in February.

This week, Magnet Geometry students will begin a unit on Similarity and Right Triangles. We will study and prove interesting (and sometimes surprising) proportional relationships, primarily in triangles but also in other polygons. We will learn various strategies for dilating figures and continue with classic compass & straightedge constructions. In early January, students will complete the Quarter 2 District Assessment, which covers the similarity portion of the unit.
For math contest fans, be aware that this Friday (December 12) is the deadline to register for the AMC8 competition. More information about the competition and a link to register are posted in the math teachers' myMCPS Classrooms. Please note that students must be the ones to register for the contest while logged into their Google account.
In Seventh Grade Magnet Science, we finished up Unit 1 on cells with learning about the nucleus, DNA, and protein synthesis. Students did a DNA extraction lab using strawberries and decoded their names into amino acids to make paper protein chains.
Looking for your child's Magnet Algebra Homework? All Magnet Algebra 1 work is posted to MyMCPS Canvas Classroom daily. From the homepage, students click Week-at-a-Glance to see the calendar with links. There is also a Homework section in the Unit 4 Module with links.
All Magnet Geometry homework is posted in myMCPS Classroom in the Module for the current unit. Most homeworks are paper assignments given out in class, but if a student is absent or loses the paper, a pdf of the assignment is always posted in the Module. If a student is not able to print the assignment at home, they are welcome to complete the assignment in a pdf editor such as Kami. They can also view the pdf questions and write their answers on paper. In general, students have two nights to complete the homework - in other words, an assignment given on Monday will be due on Wednesday. It is essential that students complete and bring the homework on time, so that they are ready to participate in the homework discussion and feedback time during class.
All assignments for Magnet Science 7 can be found posted on the daily learning maps in canvas under the modules tab, along with slides for the day, and any homework assigned.
