The SGA is doing a 26-day End-of-the-year spirit countdown. Each day there will be a new spirit day and these days can be found in the morning announcement slides.
April is Earth Month. Throughout Earth Month, you will see daily slides spotlighting different facts and people and places about environmentalism. The slides are linked here. Make sure to be constantly thinking about how your actions affect your natural environment. We have one Tilden. We have one Montgomery County. We have one Maryland. We have one Chesapeake Bay. We have one Appalachian Mountain Chain. We have one United States. And, we have one Earth. We do not have a Planet B. So, let's protect the one we have. Small lifestyle changes lead to huge impacts. Let's save our planet!
During English classes, you will vote for the 45th Student Member of the Board of Education for Montgomery County Public Schools. This is the sole voting representative elected by the 160,000 customers of the MCPS education, the students. Choose Wisely!

Message from Mr. Mann:
Good morning -
This message is to remind you we are meeting this Wednesday, March 9th, after school in the media center from 3:15-4:20 PM. We will be discussing Tilden's Green Team, our next Spirit Week, student concerns, and the SMOB Election. See you all there!

Tilden SGA's next meeting is currently scheduled for after school on Wednesday, February 2. Delegates for the SMOB Nom Con will be elected during this meeting.

The MCPS Student Member of the Board of Education is the student's only representative on the Board of Education. The Board of Education oversees MCPS and makes lots of important decisions that affect many different aspects of life at school in MCPS. The Student Member of the Board is elected by the students at MCPS secondary(Middle and High) schools.
Hana O'Looney is the current MCPS Student Member of the Board, elected with an overwhelming majority of almost 80% of the vote last school year. She will serve her term until the end of June when she will be replaced by the winner of the upcoming SMOB election. Recent former SMOBs include Nick Asante, Nate Tinbite, Ananya Tadikonda, and Matthew Post. MCPS Students can participate in districtwide advocacy by joining Hana O'Looney's SMOB Advisory Council which meets once a month to advise her on policies, and share student feedback. Students can earn SSL hours at these meetings. More information about joining the SMOB Advisory Council can be found on Hana O'Looney's website.
Any 10th or 11th grader who wants to can apply during the filing period. Afterwards, at the SMOB Nominating Convention, delegates represent each school and narrow down the number of candidates to two finalists. The finalists will then campaign until the election date, and will take office over the summer.
Each school elects a number of delegates proportionate to their enrollment(The number of students at the school). These delegates will be able to vote at the Nom Con(Nominating Convention), and they will be able to represent their school in that way. One should have contacted Mr. Mann if they were interested in becoming a delegate. The Nom Con will take place on February 16, 2022. Election day is on April 20, 2022.
Tilden will elect their delegates during an upcoming SGA meeting, currently scheduled for February 2 after school in the media center. Mr. Mann's Message to Tilden MS which was emailed to students and shared on the morning announcements can be viewed below:
