The IB Career-related Program at SVHS
Practical Real World Skills with Academic Rigor
To prepare students for the 21st century, the IB has developed the IB Career-related Program (IB CP). The IB CP provides the basis for effective collaboration in the workplace, additional training in the career-related field, as well as improved mobility and and flexibility in one's employment. The IB CP offers a learning and authentic assessment program that promotes access to an IB education, responsibility for one's own actions, skills development, and reflection of life experiences and self-esteem through meaningful achievement.
In the IB CP, students continue their SVHS Career program, while taking 2 IB DP/CP courses, IB Personal & Professional Skills course, and completing the Reflective Project, Language Development, and Service Learning.

Why IB CP?
A 2017 study published in the Journal of Vocational Education and Training examined the patterns of higher education enrollment, destinations, and persistence of all CP graduates from secondary schools in the US between 2013 and 2015 and found the following:
CP graduates enroll and persist in universities at higher rates than the national average
They tend to major in high-earning oriented fields such as: engineering (18%), business (17%), and health sciences (15%)
CP graduates persist in their higher education at higher rates than the national average
93% of CP graduates at 4-year institutions persisted for one year, as compared to 82% nationally in 2014
Once CP graduated enrolled in 89% returned for their sophomore year, which is 17% higher than the national average (72% in 2014)
CP graduates attend selective higher education institutions
Of the CP graduates that chose four-year institutions, more than half (55%) enrolled at an university ranked by Barron's Selectivity Index as "very competitive" or better
