Guitar Courses
Guitar 1: Beginning Guitar - You'll learn the basics of guitar technique, songwriting, music theory, all while playing rock/pop/folk and many other types of music.
Guitar 2: Intermediate Guitar - Solidify and expand upon the fundamentals of guitar technique while branching out into different musical areas and genres of your choice.
Guitar 3: Lower-Advanced Guitar - Custom created paths for students that allow them to pursue growth in musical areas of their interest including recording, composition, performing, improvisation, and more.
Guitar 4: Upper-Advanced Guitar - Students will form semi-professional artisty through projects and lessons that push their skills and creativity in the areas of their interests. Students will be supported in developing a musical profile and identity that can be extended into lifelong musical participation.
Piano Courses
Piano 1 (beginning piano)- Learn the basics of piano technique and music theory while playing a wide variety of music. This class is meant for students with little or no experience in imusic. Units covered include reading music, movie/video game music, jazz, and more!
Piano 2 (intermediate piano)- Continue to develop technique, music reading abilities, and play a wide variety of music at an even higher level than piano 1. Completion of Piano 1 A/B or director approval is required.
Piano 3 (intermediate-advanced piano)- Develop more advanced technique on the piano while playing a wide variety of music. Completion of piano 1 and 2, or director approval, is required.
Piano 4 (advanced piano)- The highest level of piano available at SV, this course focuses on developing high-level technical and music-reading abilities. Students who complete this course will possess the skills to perform almost any type of music at a superior level.
Note to any students considering majoring or minoring in music in college- it is highly recommended that students take a year of piano since many colleges require keyboarding classes and taking a piano class can help you test out of those requirements. Additionally, piano is a very useful instrument to have some mastery for music theory and other courses that music majors have to take.
