PDO Course # 91872 - Remind - a Communication Tool for Teachers
This training is recommended for teachers who have classes rostered to them in Synergy. During this class participants will learn how to use Remind as a communication tool to send text or email messages to their rostered classes.
This training is being offered both in person and virtually. In person sessions will take place at CTI while virtual sessions will be conducted over Zoom. If you sign up for the virtual option, the Zoom information will be sent to you in an email at least 24 hours in advance of the training.
TOT 06 - Mapping the Journey Mentoring Course
This one-MSDE credit course will develop a foundation of the content knowledge and skills needed to mentor a colleague. The emphasis will be on classroom teachers. Participants will receive the text, What Successful Mentors Do: Research-based Strategies for New Teachers Induction, Training, and Support. Class time will include interviewing a new teacher to assess needs; practicing giving and receiving feedback; problem-solving anticipated issues; and creating a new educator welcome packet. Professional reflection and self-assessment will be integral compenents of each class.
This one-credit course does not qualify you to receive the additional stipend for a "trained" mentor. In order to receive the higher stipend amount you must take the TOT-02 course for 3.0 MSDE credits. Participants cannot miss any class hours and receive credit. Mentors who complete TOT-06 will receive a stipend of $300 per semester for providing support to a mentee.

This course is designed for staff working with increasing or large enrollments of Spanish-speaking students. It provides them with conversational knowledge and basic functional skills in the use of oral Spanish. This course will emphasize communication about school-related matters with Spanish-speaking students and parents. Participants will be able to respond verbally to and ask simple questions in Spanish.

#89829 CPD EB-60 Teaching the ESOL Student in Mainstream Classroom II (CANVAS ONLINE)
This course is designed for school staff in grades K-12, who have ESOL students as part of their classroom population. The aim of the course is twofold: 1) to increase understanding of the nature of language, second language learning, and the influences of the cultures and backgrounds of ESOL students on their learning in the American classroom; and 2) to present strategies for working with ESOL students in the regular classroom. Participants will demonstrate knowledge of language & language acquisition; analyze the differences between first & second language acquisition; and acquire strategies for differentiating instruction, integrating language & content instruction, assessing content mastery within a student’s language proficiency, and creating culturally competent classrooms.
NTT-01, "Beginning Your First Year of Teaching," is designed to strengthen new teachers’ classroom repertoire, beliefs & expectations and provide educators with such strategies as classroom management, planning for instruction, differentiation, and parent communication. The five-day course is offered in the summer and again at the beginning of October.
NTT-02, "Finishing Your First Semester of Teaching," focuses on specific needs for classroom discipline, strategies, and instruction. The topics include proactive and reactive discipline techniques, managing the paperwork associated with the teaching profession, instructional strategies and attendance assessments for addressing the needs of an ethnically rich and instructionally demanding population. The five-day course is offered December through February.
NTT-03, "Ending Your First Year of Teaching," is designed to follow “Beginning the First Year of Teaching” and “Ending the First Semester of Teaching”. As such it is designed to both build and expand on those skills acquired during completion of those two courses, but the previous two courses are not prerequisites. This course continues to develop a new teacher's repertoire of instructional strategies, classroom management, evidence of student learning, and ability to accommodate the unique and diverse learner effectively. The five-day course is offered March through May.
