We heard that you would like to learn more about SCA youth programs.
Conservation work with SCA is about building trails, improving habitat, and protecting natural resources, all while building your skills as a leader, team member and problem solver. If that sounds interesting to you, read on!
As a high school student or graduating senior, you can choose from 3 different SCA programs:
Participants on SCA summer and school-year Community Crews stay close to home, do conservation service work with other students from their community, and learn important job, life and leadership skills. In many cities, these positions are even paid!

To be eligible for Community Crews, you must:
Be 15-19 years old
Be a high school student or graduating senior
Live in one of the following cities: Baltimore, MD; Camden, NJ; Chicago, IL; Greensburg, PA; Harrisburg, PA; Houston, TX; Hunterdon County, NJ; Jersey City, NJ; Johnstown/Altoona, PA; Menlo, CA; Newark, NJ; New York City, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Pittsburgh, PA; San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area, CA; Seattle, WA; Washington, DC; Wilkes-Barre, PA; Williamsport, PA
Participants on SCA summer Regional Crews work on conservation service projects with other students from their region. Some Regional Crews camp the whole time, while others commute from home everyday. All participants learn important job, life and leadership skills.

To be eligible for Regional Crews, you must:
Be 15-19 years old
Be a high school student or graduating senior
Live in one of the following regions: Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, or one of the other locations listed on this page
Participants on SCA National Crews come together to do conservation service projects with other students from around the country (and beyond). Participants camp while working on conservation service projects and learning important job, life and leadership skills.

To be eligible for National Crews, you must:
Be 15-19 years old
Be a high school student or graduating senior
Be willing to travel away from home and camp for 2 to 5 weeks

Montgomery County Recreation - Aquatics

Attached is the position description as well as a preliminary application form. Once they fill out the form they can drop it off at my office and I will schedule them a meeting to walk them through the application process.
Those that are interested as a swim instructor as discussed do not need prior swimming experience but it is preferred.
They must work well with children from infants/ parent assisted classes to adult level classes.
Must be comfortable in the water to demonstrate necessary skills. Basics (putting face in water/ floating on front and back and general coordination of front and back stroke) we will train them for the more advanced skills.
Definitely needs to be energetic and positive attitude towards teaching.
Those that are interested in the life guarding course the prerequisites are as follows. class price is $205
This course will train you to be certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer. Certifications are valid for 2 years. Attendance is required at ALL sessions in order to be certified. Students MUST be 15 years old by the last day of the course. Proof of age is required at the first class. This course includes a pre-course check. The first date listed is the pre-course. You MUST pass the pre-course to continue. The pre-course consists of:
1. 300 meter swim (front crawl or breaststroke).
2. Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs.
3. Swim 20 yards (free or breast), surface dive to 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back to starting position, exit the water on your own in under 1 minute, 40 seconds.
