What is smARTSummer?
Planned in partnership with the MCPS Summer RISE program, rising high school juniors and seniors are provided an opportunity to explore the field of art education as a viable college to career pathway. Selected high school students work directly with master art educators, who serve as mentors, to plan and deliver an instructional art program for elementary students as part of a three week career development experience. After a week of collaborative planning and with the support of their mentor teachers, the high school students will have the opportunity to facilitate the instructional activities during a two week art summer camp.
Benefits:
Provide leadership and mentoring opportunities for veteran MCPS art educators
Develop curricular resources for elementary visual art
Provide career guidance and experience for high school students interested in pursuing (art) education as a profession
Provide low-cost summer learning opportunities in art education for elementary students
