Some students may have a pre-selected support class chosen for them by teacher recommendation based on student performance data. The support courses are full year courses. Support courses are scheduled as a higher priority over elective courses, and enrollment in one support class will replace one elective class. Students with an IEP may be selected to participate in self-contained interventions as determined by the IEP.
Contact the grade level counselor if you have any questions regarding support courses.
Developmental Reading is an intensive reading intervention program designed to meet the needs of students whose reading achievement is below the proficient level. The program directly addresses individual needs through adaptive and instructional software, high-interest reading materials, and direct instruction in reading and writing skills. Students rotate among a small group, teacher-directed lessons, a computer station for reinforcement and practice, and an independent reading center where students read books at their reading level. The program is designed to rapidly accelerate student achievement with the goal of bringing students to grade level.
Reading Comprehension Intervention is for both, students in the general setting and students who receive IEP services. Typically this intervention is for students with a MAP-R score lower than 197, a lexile score less than 800, and/or a grade of D or E in ELA.
A course designed to teach skills that will support academic success and build stronger independent learners. Students learn test taking strategies, organizational skills, and strategies for time management. During the class period, students actively monitor their academic achievement and develop strategies to maintain or improve their grades. The class provides time for students to get support with front loading material, reteaching, missing assignments, projects and homework.
