In order to maintain a focused, respectful and safe environment conducive to learning and the social emotional well-being of students, the use of all personal mobile devices (PMDs) are strictly prohibited. A personal mobile device refers to any non-MCPS-issued device used to send or receive data via voice, video, or text. Mobile phones, e-readers, tablets, personal computers, smart watches, or other devices equipped with microphones, headphones, speakers, and/or cameras are all considered PMDs.
This policy is in place to ensure that all students can engage fully in their educational experience without distractions. Any use of these devices during the school day (9:25-3:50 PM) will result in confiscation. Rock Creek Forest ES will assume no responsibility or liability for lost, stolen, or confiscated devices or for the unauthorized use of any such device.
Exceptions
Documentation is required to support exemptions. The exception is specific to the need only and still prohibits the use for any other purposes. If a student has an approved documented need (diabetes, 504 plan, IEP, or other accommodation), as determined by a healthcare professional requiring the use of a cell phone, the cell phone must be used exclusively for this purpose.
