Other Resources

YouTube Channels (fun and useful)

  • 8 Bit Music Theory: FOR FUN this channel analyzes video game music but uses a lot of the vocabulary from the exam

  • Adam Neely: More advanced and related more to pop examples than what is tested on the exam, but nice videos!

  • Advanced Placement: College Board created, this channel has videos about all of the AP courses. May be good to subscribe to videos for all your AP classes!

  • Andrew Huang: FOR FUN has some good theory videos, but also a lot of other videos about music production

  • Aural Skills Guru: Videos that practice melodic dictation and contextual listening (GREAT FOR EAR TRAINING)

  • Michael New: Good videos about Music Theory Fundamental (good place to start and refer back to during the year)

Music Theory Websites

  • G Major Music Theory: Has a fundamentals section, contextual listening, and exercises. Also has some free piano and guitar music!

  • MusicTheory.net: Tutorial Lessons and drill exercises that we will use in class often.

  • Music Theory Examples by Women: I use this website for contextual listening, but you might like to look up more examples

  • Rouse High School Music Theory Website: Similar to this site, this is a teacher made resource for AP music theory and choir classes. It has some repeats from our site but still useful!

  • Teoria: Has more advanced tutorials (not always stuff on the AP exam but very useful) and ear training exercises

  • Toned Ear: Specifically for ear training practice, this is a great website for learning to hear intervals, chords, and chord progressions
