2D Studio Art 1 - Introductory Art Course
ART2042A/B (Full year course A/B)
In this entry level drawing and painting course students will develop foundational art skills while exploring different media, tools and techniques. This course helps to develop skills at all different levels regardless of past art experience. Please do not be hesitant to take this course if you were planning on signing up for Foundations of Art. This will be almost identical to the Foundations of Art class. There will be some units that focus on beginning drawing. But there will be lots of units that are not focussed on drawing. We will do some watercolor, printmaking and some hand on sculptures projects.. This is for anyone and the teachers are not expecting that you have any drawing experience.
Media includes pencil & color pencil, charcoal, ink, watercolor, acrylic paint etc.
Techniques include drawing, painting, value studies, still life, portraiture, landscape, color theory etc.
Advanced 2D Studio Art 2
ART2031A/B- (Full year course A/B)
(Prerequisite Studio Art 1)
In this intermediate level drawing and painting course students will expand upon learned materials and techniques from Studio Art 1. Using the foundational skills from Studio Art 1 students explore media and open ended prompts to create finished artworks.
Media and technique includes pencil & color pencil, charcoal, watercolor, acrylic paint on canvas, collage, printmaking, abstract large scale work, self portraiture etc.
Advanced 2D Studio Art 3
ART2032A/B- (Full year course A/B)
(Prerequisite Studio Art 2)
In this advanced level drawing and painting course students will continue exploring media and techniques from Studio Art 1 and 2 while honing personal voice through their artmaking. Emphasis on development of ideas through the use of student choice exploring different subject matter and mediums.
Media includes pencil & color pencil, charcoal, watercolor, acrylic paint on canvas & board, collage, printmaking, large scale work, portraiture etc.
AP Drawing
(Full year double period course A/B) (Prerequisite Studio Art 3)
ART2062 A/B
Students will develop a personal portfolio of artwork (10-12 pieces) called a Sustained Investigation (college board requirement). Guided by the teacher, the students work independently to develop ideas, experiment with mediums, revise, and ultimately present their work as a whole; just as a practicing artist would. At completion of the course students submit their portfolio of work (rather than a test) to meet the requirements for the AP Exam to demonstrate the competencies as identified by the College Board.
Digital Art 1A/B Introductory Art Course
ART2069A/B
This full-year course explores computer art and design programs that prepare for college and career. This is the entry level course that covers the basics in learning these computer art skills. Students will be on the computer most of the time. Students do not need previous computer experience but should be prepared to be creating and drawing on the computer. These creative skills include:
Learning basics of graphic art and design, including brainstorming, sketching, and finalizing pieces.
Learning and making pixel-less vector art in Adobe Illustrator.
Learning and making pixel-based art in Adobe Photoshop.
Learning and talking about types of digital art for reference and inspiration, including artists and genres such as graphic design, illustration, typography, concept art, etc.

Adv Digital Art 2A/B

(Prerequisite Digital Art 1)
This full-year, advanced-level course provides opportunities to refine and master computer art and design programs, using industry standards to prepare for college and career. These more advanced skills include:
Applying prior knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to explore deeper prompts and push skill-building in brainstorming, sketching, and finalizing.
Use creative problem-solving by designing solutions to more open-ended prompts.
Explore unique forms, printing, and digital media to create various designs, branding, and art.
Further learn types of digital art and artists in various disciplines, such as graphic design, illustration, typography, concept art, product design, etc.

Digital Art 3
ART2059A/B
(Prerequisite Digital Art 2)
This full-year, advanced-level course requires students to refine and master computer art and design programs, using industry standards to prepare for college and career. These mastery skills include:
Mastery of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to create a large variety of works with more open-ended prompts and an organized portfolio.
Creative problem-solving with aspects of both applied - art made for clients or businesses - and fine art.
Writing and critical-thinking skills are further developed through artist statements, critiques, and interpreting and observing artists in various digital disciplines.
Understand and work in an environment and at the standards of a professional designer.
Prerequisite: Digital Art 2 A/B
This course provides students with a basic understanding of digital photography as an art form. A digital camera and computer software replaces the traditional darkroom and is used to capture and manipulate photographic images, and to increase the student's understanding of both traditional and contemporary photographic techniques. Photographic composition and the expression of meaning in personal artworks will be stressed. The students will create portfolios of their digital photographs that emulate both traditional and contemporary photographic processes and media.
This individualized program focuses on photography projects that demonstrate the competencies expected of Advanced Placement applicants, as identified by the College Board. Students assemble portfolios to meet the submission requirements for the AP Exam.
