Technology

Foundations of Technology

Foundations of Technology provides an orientation and exposure to engineering activities. Engineering applies scientific principles to discover solutions to practical problems. In this experience-based course, students are actively involved in applied practices of various engineering fields.

Students solve real-world problems and communicate, through reading and writing, technical information. Students design, engineer, and evaluate products and systems to better understand the relationship between technology and society. Environmental and legal considerations, as well as professional ethics are addressed in student engineering experiences.

This course satisfies the technology graduation requirement (1 full credit is required to graduate).

Foundations of Computer Science

The course provides an engaging introduction to computing concepts through a nationally developed curriculum, offered through a unique partnership with Code.org. The course focuses on the conceptual ideas of computing so that students understand why tools and languages are used to solve problems through a study of human computer interaction, problem solving, web design, programming, data analysis, and robotics.  This course provides Technology Education credit for Graduation.

Innovation to Engineering and Design

This course helps students understand engineering and engineering technology and identify career possibilities. This course provides an overview of engineering and engineering technology. Students develop problem solving skills by tack- ling real-world engineering problems. Through theory and practical hands-on experiences, students address the emerging social and political consequences of technological change.

Principles of IT Cybersecurity

Students will learn how information travels across the Internet and networks and how to protect electronic information. Real-world cybersecurity problems are explored along with current best practices to protect users, systems and networks. Students will learn about a variety of careers in cybersecurity. Course content includes the legal and ethical issues involved with computer technology use.
