Bayard Rustin Elementary School Counseling aims for a culture of respect, responsibility, and safety in which all students are empowered with the academic, social, and emotional knowledge and skills to be well-rounded students, ready for life beyond the school day. About Our School Counselors
Mrs. S.
Heather Sobieralski, School Counselor (also affectionately known as Mrs. S.) - her role is to support the social/emotional, academic and college/career growth of all students. It is her job to be creative in removing any barriers to learning. Mrs. S's responsibilities include: IEP team member, individual counseling, lunch bunches, social clubs, support teachers/parents, crisis intervention and student/family engagement. She provides resources and connects families to support systems In MCPS and In the community.
Mrs. S has been at Bayard Rustin ES since the doors opened In 2017!
Mrs. S lives in Howard County with her husband, 2 children and their dog. She is originally from Pittsburgh.
Mrs. S enjoys being active, cooking vegetarian food and being outside, especially on the water.
Mrs. S will be your contact for responsive counseling to address student concerns and to support community and family needs.

Mrs. Eig
Heather Eig, School Counselor- Her role is to visit students in their classrooms to teach Classroom Counseling Lessons focusing on concepts such as character development, coping strategies, decision making, exploring emotions, activism, and personal & interpersonal development. She plans and implements school-wide character campaigns and events that support social emotional learning (SEL) such as: Aevidum, Bullying Awareness, Gratitude, Kindness Challenge, College/Career Exploration, Activism, Neurodiversity, and Mental Health Matters. Mrs. Eig creates SEL lessons for the teachers to implement in the classroom. She co-sponsors Rainbow Club, Kids 4 Kids Philanthropy Club, No Place for Hate Ambassadors, and Friendly Foxes. She is also the 504 case manager. Mrs. Eig developed our School Counseling website and continues to update it with relevant counseling resources for students, families, and school staff.
Mrs. Eig has worked in Elementary, Middle, and High Schools.
Mrs. Eig has 3 children (2 in MCPS and 1 at Northeastern University). She and her husband graduated from MCPS schools.
Mrs. Eig loves taking long walks with her family and dogs. She enjoys yoga and boating. She likes to tap dance, travel, and listen to music.
Mrs. Eig is a Yoga Instructor and leads students In gentle yoga and adaptive practices at Bayard Rustin ES.
Mrs. Eig Is the 2023 Sharon Katula Champion for Children's award winner, in connection with Rock & Roll Foundation and The Children's Inn at NIH.
