Original Credit Courses

Registration for all summer courses have closed! Credit Recovery for Semester B will remain open until June 16th.



Student may register for ONE original credit course per semester.

Frequently Asked Questions

When do classes start?

Session A: Classes will begin on June 28 and end July 16.

Session B: Classes will begin on July 19 and end on August 6

How long is each class?

Students should plan on spending about 4.5 hours per weekday. This time will include zoom meetings with their teacher, watching video lessons, participating in online practice activities and completing online assessments.

How often will I be expected to zoom with my teacher?

Students should expect to zoom with their teacher at least 3 times per week. Your teacher will send out a zoom schedule including class times and office hours for individual or small group questions.

What if I need extra help?

If students feel that they would benefit from a tutoring session, they should let their teacher know. Their math teacher will assign them a BLISS tutor who will work individually with the student.

How do I contact my teacher?

Teachers will maintain a schedule of zoom office hours that will be provided to the student at the start of class. Students may drop into office hours as needed to ask questions and receive tutoring. Teachers are available via their MCPS email which will also be provided

Are these classes for credit?

Yes, each session is for 0.5 credit hours. To earn 1 credit you must register for both Session A and Session B.

Who is eligible to participate?

MCPS highschool (rising 9th graders included) students who are looking to earn original highschool math credit or to improve their GPA. *ask about just Blair students

Are there limits on the number of students who participate?

Yes, class sizes are limited to 25 students.

What materials do I need at home to participate?

You will need a device that has access to the internet. Teachers will provide video lessons, practice materials, and assessments online.

Geometry A and Honors Geometry A do require a protractor and a compass.


What do I do if I need a chromebook?

How will I know what to do?

Students will attend a mandatory zoom session on day 1 (Semester A - June 28th and Semester B - July 9th) of the summer semester to meet their teacher. The teacher will demonstrate how to access online materials, share work expectations, office hours, and best practices to succeed in an online class.

If a student is taking a course for original credit can they also participate in credit recovery or an enrichment course?

If a student is taking a course for original credit they may not take an enrichment or extension course. Taking a credit recovery course will be considered on a case by case basis.
