The Minority Scholars Program Is a student lead, student based, and student driven program aimed at closing the opportunity gap for students In Montgomery County Public Schools. The vision of The Minority Scholars Program Is to create a world where Black and Brown students and their intersectional identities experience true equity, a sense of belonging, and fully thrive In school and the community. The Minority Scholars Program aims to empower students to analyze and disrupt racial Inequalities and systems of oppression.
Minority Scholars at Farmland
Minority Scholars is for Black and Hispanic students in 3rd - 5th grades.
Meeting Schedule:
5th Grade: Tuesdays during lunch and recess, 12:00–1:00 p.m.
3rd & 4th Grade: Tuesdays during lunch and recess, 1:15–2:15 p.m.
Student Leadership:
5th Grade: Students elect Co-Presidents, Co-Vice Presidents, and Co-Secretaries.
3rd & 4th Grade: Each grade elects two students to serve as representatives.
These student leaders form the Executive Board, which meets once or twice a month.
What We Do
At Farmland, the Minority Scholars Program empowers students to make our school a safe, inclusive, and welcoming place—especially for Black and Latino students. The group ensures that all voices are heard and valued in the school community.
Activities Include:
Organizing events such as the Martin Luther King Jr. / Black History Month Assembly
Leading school-wide activities to recognize heritage months
Raising awareness about issues affecting marginalized groups within and beyond Farmland
