Centering Our Students:
Confronting Hate-Bias & Racism Head-On
"Addressing systemic racism and community hate is a problem that demands...action and commitment to change...This means actively working to dismantle barriers, challenge biases, and create an inclusive and welcoming environment in our schools."
Dr. Thomas Taylor, Superintendent, December 2024
Dear Colleagues,
"Since starting as your superintendent this summer, we have witnessed persistent reporting of racist, anti-black, antisemitic, and other incidents of hate and bias occurring within our schools and district as a whole.
These incidents harm our community, and...we have not managed every incident in the best way. This is...a disservice to the students, staff, and families of our school communities.
We believe every student deserves an equitable and equal opportunity to succeed, regardless of race or background. For me, this is not just a statement—it’s a commitment to take meaningful action to ensure ALL students have access to the resources, support, and opportunities they need to succeed."
EquityMatters! is a periodic newsletter with resources to help all Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) staff work to dismantle barriers, challenge biases, and create an inclusive and welcoming environment in our schools. Please scan the information below and find one or two resources that will support Dr. Taylor's commitment to meaningful action.
