Important changes for the upcoming COSA transfer process:
Requests submitted after April 1, 2025, will not be considered unless there was a recent move or an emergency event that could not have been foreseen prior to April 1.
All COSA requests must be submitted online through ParentVue in Synergy. Parents who need support on how to use ParentVue to complete an online COSA request are encouraged to reach out to a staff member at their child’s assigned school.
Detailed information related to the COSA process can be found in the 2025-2026 COSA information booklet, which will be available at the end of January.
For questions, call the Division of Pupil Personnel and Attendance Services at 240-740-5620.

What does Universal screening mean and entail?
Since Covid, MCPS has replaced the Cogat test with universal screening, which involves determination of entry into the lottery pool by data such as Map scores, report card grades, teacher recommendations, middle school staff considerations, & other factors.
What is the lottery pool and how do I find out if my child is in it?
You will receive a mailed letter by 2/1 stating whether your child was placed in the lottery pool. If he/she was put in the pool, you must decide whether you want to accept the spot at either Eastern or TPMS or refuse it. If you accept it, your child will be heading to that middle school. Congrats! Please let your child's homeroom teacher and Mrs. Felsher know.
What if I get put on the waitlist for the pool?
What is the difference between Eastern MS and Takoma Park MS?
If my child goes to their home middle school, will they receive enriched instruction?
What is the MSMC or choice program?
Important Dates for Magnets
You should receive a mailed letter regarding the status of the magnet middle school decision by March.
