5/12 and 5/13 - We discussed the trait of the month, courage. We defined courage and shared examples of personal fears we name and challenge to build resilience. We even used our paper airplanes to name a challenge or worry and then throw our planes to help sail through the difficulty. The majority of our session time we decorated personalized shields with courageous representations.
4/27 - A Spot of Honesty is one of the Spot of Emotions books that we read in today's class. We then created our own personalized Spots of emotion and updated the bulletin board in the Counseling office. As a bonus for students who finished all required activites we created paper airplanes.
4/13 - Our character trait of the month is Honesty. We worked on defining honesty through examples from school experiences. We discussed "white lies" and filtering thoughts in a kind and honest way. We listened to a story called Dhira about a rabbit who liked to tell creative stories but suffered the distrust in a tricky twist.
Week of 3/3 - Our March character trait is Patience. We discussed and defined patience and completed various activites to stretch our patience. We chose from: word finds, mazes, color by number mandalas.
Second graders listened to The Listening Walk. This story is part of our Peace of Mind lessons where we utilize listening to foster mindfulness.
1/12 - We discussed sensations and how they can be experienced through ouf 5 different senses. We practiced I spy using our sense of sight and taste testing using our sensations through taste.
Week of 12/8 - We read a book called I Said No and discussed connecting with safe adults if we're feeling uncomfortable.
We practiced mindfulness strategies such as mindful seeing.
We listened to Moody Cow Meditates and discussed ways to manage and regulate emotions.
Week of 10/13: We learned about Mindful Seeing from Peace of Mind by listening to A Color of His Own by Leo Leoni and creating our very own colorful chameleons to show off our unique, colorful community.

We did a counseling office scavenger hunt to learn about the different tools and toys in the room and when/how to use them
We discussed how to meet with Mrs. Fleming (using the Counselor Request Station)
Discussed and earned PAWS (our school wide positive reinforcement system)
Learned about and practiced Responsibility the September Character Cat trait.
