Language Acquisition
At Argyle, we offer 7 World Languages courses: French 1 & 2; Spanish 1, 2, & 3; and Spanish for Spanish Speakers 1 & 2. With 5 different levels of Spanish, your student should have taken a Spanish placement test last school year in order to schedule them appropriately this year if they are exposed to any amount at home. This week, Spanish and French teachers worked with their students to ensure each student was properly scheduled. If you are not sure that your student has been properly scheduled, please contact the World Language teacher (Bonig, Edwards, Kamara, Obando) to whom your student is currently assigned.
"ESOL" has been rebranded this year as "English for English Learners." This change is county-wide and has impacted the number of English Learner courses that schools offer. We now enroll students in Levels 1, 2, or 3. There are no longer Level 4 & 5 courses. In addition to taking English for English Learners, your student may also be enrolled in Advanced English. The combination of these two courses, as well as all other courses, are meant to support your student in earning the necessary scores on the annual ACCESS test in order to graduate from the English Learner program. More information on the ACCESS test is provided in the teacher videos below.
