WHAT IS ELC?
The Enriched Literacy Curriculum is a humanities-based program designed for students that need rigorous instruction comparable to the learning experiences of students in the Center for Enriched Studies and housed at the local school.
The ELC addresses 4th grade standards and helps facilitate explicit connections across content areas. It provides opportunities for students to engage in literary and informational text, develops the writer through the writing process and writing workshop, and establishes an atmosphere that promotes critical and creative thinking.
The ELC uses the following as instructional resources:
Junior Great Books (reading)
William and Mary (reading)
Literature Circle Books (reading)
Lucy Calkins Units of Study (writing)
New this year: word study integration
