Students, PK-12, will be evaluated on academic progress. Interim progress reports will be issued after four and one-half (4.5) weeks of each nine-week (9) quarter for students in grades K-12. Report cards will be issued after each nine weeks for students in grades K-12.
Standards-based grading will be used for students in grades K-5. Students’ progress will be reported with:
Satisfactory
Progressing
Needs Improvement
Unsatisfactory
For Grades 6-12, students’ progress will be reported with A, B, C, D, and F, with each letter defined as follows:
An “A” indicates that the student consistently does excellent work with skill and thoroughness;
A “B” indicates that the student’s work is above average and frequently approaches excellence;
A “C” indicates that the student does average work and is making satisfactory progress with constant direction from the teacher;
A “D” indicates that the student’s performance consistently falls below the average level; and
An “F” indicates that the student’s work falls below a level acceptable for the grade and is unsatisfactory.
The following scale will apply in all Middlesex County Public Schools for determining letter grades and for recording daily classroom grades:
90-100 A
80-89 B
70-79 C
60-69 D
0-59 F
Teachers should have a minimum of 9 grades to average (per subject) for each nine week/quarterly grading period.
Administrators and faculties at each school will write standard procedures for weighting of grades. These written practices are to be shared with students and parents. The standard practices will address all the components of a grade, including, but not limited to homework, projects, grade averages, oral presentations, daily performances, quizzes, tests, and exams.
