Beginnings of the nursery 2018: The Nursery initiative sprouted in 2018, fuelled by a shared concern about pesticide use. A passionate group of individuals came together, united by their love for trees and the environment.
Community Nursery Approval (February 2020): After persistent efforts, the community received a green light for establishing the nursery in co-operation with Mull and Iona Community Trust (MICT). MICT have been a key support to us providing resources and advice.

The start of Ground Preparation (August 2020): With enthusiasm and shovels in hand, the community members prepared the nursery grounds. They cleared the land, levelled it, and readied it for the polytunnel.
Nearly Finished (September 2020): The grounds are ready for the polytunnel
Polytunnel Erection (October 2020): A sturdy polytunnel was erected, providing shelter for young saplings. This structure allowed for controlled growing conditions, protecting the delicate plants from harsh weather.
Tree Growing (March 2021): The community members rolled up their sleeves and planted a diverse selection of trees: oaks, hawthorn, hazel, and holly. Each sapling represented hope for a greener future.
Inaugural Community BBQ (August 2021): The first community event took place—a barbecue amidst the young trees. Laughter, food, and the rustling leaves created a memorable atmosphere.
Ardura Community Forest (July 2022): The Nursery extended its impact beyond its own grounds. The first oaks were planted at the Ardura Community Forest, connecting the efforts of different tree-loving communities.
Large Tree Order (February 2023): The nursery team hit a milestone by wrapping its first substantial tree order—over 3000 trees! These would soon find new homes across the landscape.
Open Day (August 2023): The community swung open the nursery gates, inviting neighbours, families, and curious passers by to explore. Visitors learned about tree care, the nursery’s mission and enjoyed a BBQ and raffle.
Massive Tree Shipment (November 2023): The culmination of our hard work arrived: over 10,000 trees were dispatched to the nearby Langamull area. These trees will contribute to reforestation efforts and combat climate change.
