SJMS Families,
We made it to the last day! I am so proud of the work that our staff and students have done this year. We saw lots of growth with our kiddos. I want to say GOOD LUCK to our 8th graders as they move on to high school. They are going to do GREAT things. To our 6th and 7th graders, I hope you have a SUPER summer, and I cannot wait for your return in August to see all the new things in the building.
Please remember that due to the refresh of the building we will be housed at McKinney North High School this summer. We will be in offices down by the cafeteria in the front of the building. Our phone number will remain the same - (469) 302-4900. Our voicemail will reflect our hours each week, so be sure to call before showing up.
STAAR scores are due back to us next week. Scroll down for the specifics or check your email for a separate email about how we will notify parents.
I wish everyone a WONDERFUL summer and look forward to seeing everyone at Back to School Day, August 8, 2022. Our first day of school is August 10, 2022.
Sincerely,
Holly Rogers
Principal, Scott Johnson Middle School
Just a reminder, the track and field are under construction until the start of next year.
Due to the building refresh, the SJMS PTO will not be offering school supply packs this year. Students will have to purchase the school supplies on their own. Scroll down to see the 2022 - 2023 School Supply List.
Save the date for 2022 - 2023 Meet the Teacher - Monday, August 8, 2022. More details can be found if you scroll down.

SJMS Families,
I wanted to give you some specific information about summer school this summer. MISD is only offering summer school to students who are not successful on the STAAR tests that we have taken the last two weeks of school. The district will receive scores on Monday, May 23, 2022. If your student is not successful on any of the tests, SJMS personnel will be sending out emails to parents to let them know the steps to take to sign up and participate in summer school. HB4545 requires all students that fail or do not take a STAAR test to have 30 hours of additional tutoring in that subject.
MISD is having summer school from June 1 - June 30 for all 6th-12th graders to complete these hours. It is all online and can be done from anywhere on the child’s computer or a family computer.
We will be emailing individual parents of students who will need to complete summer school. The letter will have all of the information needed to sign up and participate in summer school.
If your student is an 8th grader and failed either the math or the reading portion of STAAR, staff will be contacting you to set up an accelerated learning meeting that can be held in person or over the phone.
As always if you have any questions, please give us a call at (469) 302-4900.
Sincerely,
Holly Rogers

Parent Notification of House Bill 4545
McKinney Independent School District
State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness for
STAAR 3-8 and End of Course Exams (EOC) 9-12
April 8, 2022
Dear Parents,
This letter contains important information for you and your child regarding STAAR/EOC tutoring requirements called for by House Bill 4545. The purpose of HB 4545 is to create additional support for accelerated instruction for students who do not meet the passing standard on STAAR and End of Course (EOC) exams.
HB 4545 requires that students who do not participate in/pass the STAAR and EOC exams must complete 30 hours of accelerated instruction in each subject area in which they were not successful during the 2021-22 school year. McKinney ISD will offer these mandatory hours during the summer.
Secondary students will receive their online instruction through APEX, which is an accelerated learning platform with a digital curriculum, on their own schedule between June 6-July 1. Facilitated online support will be available between 9 AM -12 PM Monday through Friday. More detailed information will be sent at a later date for students who do not meet the passing standard on STAAR and EOC exams.
The Texas Education Agency reports that STAAR and EOC results are scheduled to be communicated to campus staff by May 23. If your child does not meet the passing standard, the campus staff will be sharing results with you ASAP. MISD realizes there is a short turnaround time between TEA posting results and summer school starting, which is why we are letting you know the dates and times now so that you can plan accordingly in case your child needs to participate.
McKinney ISD recognizes and supports the important role parents and guardians play in the education of their children, and we look forward to working with you to help your child succeed. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s assistant principal, Laura Stinson (A-K), lstinson@mckinneyisd.net or Grace Roberts (L-Z), groberts@mckinneyisd.net .
Sincerely,
Holly Rogers
