Cadets who complete at least 2 years of MCJROTC are entitled to advanced upon initial enlistment in an active or reserve component
To be eligible for enrollment and continuance in the MCJROTC program, a cadet must:
Be enrolled in, and attending a regular course of instruction at McKinney High School.
Be a citizen of the United States or U.S. National, and be at least 14 years of age.
Be of good moral character as determined by the Senior Marine Instructor (SMI), Marine Instructor (MI) and principal, is not a discipline problem at MHS.
Be physically qualified to participate in the MCJROTC Physical Fitness Program.
Agree to comply with uniform and grooming regulations/standards as set forth in current MCJROTC regulations/guidelines and upon concurrence of the parent or legal guardian.
The wide variety of subjects includes the following:
CITIZENSHIP -- Provides all aspects of citizenship to include patriotism, citizenship requirements, civic responsibilities, and national defense.
LEADERSHIP -- An ongoing study of the principles and practical application of leadership with emphasis on providing opportunities for students to exercise and develop their own leadership abilities.
PERSONAL GROWTH AND RESPONSIBILITY --: Provides information and requires cadet involvement in physical fitness, health, hygiene, nutrition, social skills, written and oral communication and personal finance.
PUBLIC SERVICE AND CAREER EXPLORATION -- Provides information on career preparation and opportunities for public service.
GENERAL MILITARY SUBJECTS -- Explains all aspects of MCJROTC administration, drill and ceremonies, uniforms, clothing and equipment, customs, courtesies and traditions of the Marine Corps, ranks structure, chain of command, military history, marksmanship, first aid, guard duty, land navigation, and the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ)
No - The JROTC program exists to motivate students to become better citizens. Students enrolled in JROTC are NOT obligated or pressured to join the military. In fact, most students that participate in JROTC at MHS DO NOT go on to pursue a military career.
JROTC does allow students to explore and pursue military careers, if desired
No - JROTC is NOT a discipline program for struggling teens. It is a cadet led program that develops leadership skills. Lesson plans are executed by cadet leaders under the supervision of the instructors.
Non McKinney High School students MUST transfer to MHS.
If not zoned for MHS, immediate removal will take place.

Yes - A MISD Physical Form will be required annually.
Yes - this program does have curriculum involving uniform guidelines and expectations. Cadets will be in uniform at least once a week. This will be communicated via Hot Scoop plan of the week. Most uniforms are provided free of cost for students. All Cadets will be issued the Marine Corps Combat Uniform. As cadets join teams and become more involved, they will earn Dress Blues. LE3 and LE4 are also issues Service and Dress uniforms.
Yes, our program enforces cadets to follow grooming standards. These can be found in the handbook. Grooming standards are required to be met for competitive activities and teams.
MHS MCJROTC hosts the Annual Marine Corps Birthday Ball ICO with the Marine Corps order and traditions around 10 November.
Formal Attire for all guests. Ladies, please wear dresses below the knee. Gentlemen may wear button down shirts with slacks or suits. (Cadets may wear Dress Blues.)
Yes. MCJROTC students are highly encouraged and some are involved in everything from varsity sports to band, choir, and other clubs. Involvement in other activities outside school is also encouraged. The program offers several additional teams (Academics, Marksmanship, Raiders, drill teams and color guard) that cadets may join in additional to the normal JROTC class activities. The program may also offers field trips, summer camps, military balls, and other group-sponsored activities.
