Please, please read the blue document that you received with your laptop very carefully. Read at least the first two pages before clicking anything. Your log-in instructions with your new laptop is different than what you were used to in middle school - at least for now while we are distance learning.
Your username and password for logging onto the computer itself is:
username: misdstudent
password: mckinney2020
You will continue to use these credentials to log in to the laptop at least for the duration of distance learning.
If you do not have your blue document from laptop pick-up anymore, here is a link to it.
The instructions below walk you through steps by steps of logging into SSO (Single Sign On) for the first time. SSO is an icon on the desktop screen of your laptop. Click on it to find the log in screen below. After setting up your password during your initial visit to SSO, you will continue to use this icon/shortcut each time you open your laptop and need to launch Canvas, HAC, your Google Drive, and other online resources.
The first time you log in to SSO, log in this way:
Username: s****** (The ****** is your 6 digit student ID)
Password: MISD + your 8 digit birthday + ! (Example: MISD01122006!)
Notice: If you are new to MISD and a 10-12 grader, your temporary password is MISD + your 8 digit birthday (Example: MISD01122005). Notice there is no exclamation point for your temporary password.
Once you have entered your credentials the first time, you will be prompted that your password has expired. Click on the link in LIGHT BLUE to change your password. PLEASE NOTE THE LINK IS HARD TO SEE AGAINST THE BLUE BACKGROUND.
Enter your username again, and create a new password.
When you update your password, it must meet the following criteria:
12 character period
Must include at least one upper case letter, lower case letter, number, special character (at least 3 of these)
You may NOT use any part of your name, ID number, or birthday in your password.
Do NOT use the @ symbol in your password. (It gets mistaken for an email address)
If you were successful in changing your password, you will see this message. If you receive an error, please go back and make sure that you meeting all the criteria for your password. When we see errors in student passwords, it is frequently because all criteria was not met.
You may see this window pop up when you first start using your laptop. When you do, please click Cancel. That's it...
You will mostly likely see this pop-up several times. Each time, just click Cancel. It will stop popping up after a few times, we promise:)
Every time you get on your laptop (or personal device) and need to access HAC, Canvas, etc, go through the SSO icon, which is on your desktop. If you are using a personal device, go to sso.mckinneyisd.net (bookmarking this is strongly suggested).
Log in to SSO with s + your ID number (Ex: s123456)
And the password that you set.
While you are learning at home, you will continue to use the generic log-in to log in to the laptop itself. (Username=misdstudent; Password: mckinney2020)
Every time you need to access Canvas, HAC, textbook, library search, etc, go to the SSO icon (or sso.mckinneyisd.net) and log in with your personal credentials.
Click on the Home Access Center (HAC) icon to see your schedule and grades. Click on the Canvas icon to go to your courses that your teacher has set up for you.
Every student has a school issued Gmail account.
Student Username/Gmail address follows the pattern below:
Username: firstname.lastnameXXX@student.mckinneyisd.net
(XXX = last three digits of student ID number)
Password: same as Canvas/HAC
