The Challenge

This is it! Throughout this week (9/18-9/24) we are encouraging you to set your food budget at $28, the average weekly SNAP budget for a recipient in Maine. A part of the SNAP guideline is that these dollars may only be used on grocery foods and does not include items such as hot prepared foods, alcohol, restaurants, cafes, etc... Since this is the case, we are asking that you adhere to this guideline as well.

SNAP dollars are intended to be supplemental but very often become the sole food budget for a struggling family. Cash is vital for paying for expenses such as rent, utilities, school supplies, and much more. Food is usually one of the first things we cut down on when push comes to shove. This doesn't mean that food insecure households never go out to eat or visit cafes but that it can easily become straining. Once again, we are not asking anyone to be perfect but are encouraging everyone to try their best to adhere to the guidelines!

So please join us this week by taking the challenge and register here if you haven't already!
