Jurassic World Dominion - reviews
Year 10 Film students were fortunate enough to have a trip down to Rialto on Wednesday 15th June to see the last of the Jurassic World franchise, Jurassic World Dominion. Here are three reviews of the film from the film class...
Should you watch Jurassic World Dominion?
By William Moyle, Year 10 Film
Jurassic World Dominion Directed by Colin Trevorrow is an action/science fiction movie and the 6th instalment in the Jurassic Park/World Franchise and the last one in the franchise. They combined some of the old cast with the new cast which I thought was great so my opinion is positive.
Overall, I thought the film was great. I loved the acting and how good the CGI was. It really looked real. I also enjoyed how they brought back the old cast to work with the new cast. I also loved the fight at the end when the T-Rex and Therizinosaurus fought the Giganotosaurus.
Now the CGI team really outdid themselves with this one; it was incredible with the dinosaurs and the locusts. It looked very realistic and I loved it. But I also found something else out: a lot of the dinosaurs were animatronics with director Colin Trevorrow saying it was because the actors cannot interact with CGI. This would also make the acting much better when there is a very realistic dinosaur or dinosaur head in front of them!
The acting was also excellent. It showed how some of the characters were brave regarding dinosaurs but some were terrified of them. My favourite actor in it had to be Chris Pratt as he has always been a great actor in the Jurassic franchise. I also loved the return of the original characters from Jurassic park.
Now the realism was OK as the dinosaurs looked very realistic but were not accurate, as the Dilophosaurus never even shot venom and the Giganotosaurus isn't even the biggest dinosaur The Spinosaurus was!
I also thought that the genetic modification stuff to revive the dinosaurs is very cool although the woman getting pregnant with herself and then fixing her disease in her daughter using genetic modification was a bit far fetched for me.
So I think the film was astounding aside from the parts where it wasn’t very realistic and it tied it all together very well so overall. So to answer the question the title is asking… YES! I highly recommend watching it it has great acting some incredible CGI they were even using animatronics! The only reason I wouldn't recommend you go if you are more into the realism as you may cringe at some of the false facts in the movie either that or if you are afraid of dinosaurs! I would give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
A Must See Blockbuster
By Brodie Miller, Year 10 Film
Jurassic World dominion. Simply Amazing. The CGI of the animals, the beloved and returning characters and of course the most anticipated ending to the jurassic movie era. From the start you got the vibe that the movie was going to reveal things and characters that you would never have thought could come back. From the mysterious creatures to the new and old characters this movie had it all.
This film is the one to watch in 2022. Having competition with movies like Top Gun and Lightyear but this one from a dinosaur lover standpoint is the top one. Although many disagree and say that top gun is the best I wont say know but if you understand and have followed all the other jurassics then you will make much better sense of then the original top gun. Along with this is an amazing story line and how they got to the end battle between Giganautausaurus and the t-rex ,Therizonisaurus. I really enjoyed the part when they were flying to the headquarters place and they were attacked mid air by a pteranodon or whatever that one was. Overall the entertainment of this movie was somewhat subtle and pleasing.
The first thing to mention is the pace of the movie. Like every movie it can vary in pace even during the same shot. A good example of this was when Barry stood in front of the raptor with its cage behind him waiting for the right moment to jump out the way. You can imagine it would have been slow and tense at the start and then as soon as something loud happened everything happened. In this case when Owen yelled now the raptor jumped, he jumped and the door was shut all in about 1 second. The timing of the pace for this movie was impeccable.
Another really prominent feature in this movie was the atmosphere. Examples like when Claire was underwater and the dinosaur was yelling at her the atmosphere underwater was a dialed down roar however on the outside, boy was the dinosaur not happy. Atmosphere also changed and it seems like there was a lot of sunset during the bit in the USA where the two carnotaurus were out roaming the streets. This gave the movie a really interesting aspect that sunset meant something it was not in the real world because let's be honest this isn't a real or even safe world.
To round it up I think Jurassic World Dominion was a great finish to the Jurassic series as it included everything from more dinosaurs and all the old Park actors who still had it in them. I give this movie a strong 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Pre History repeats itself

Bloated plot leaves no room for its founders - the dinos.
So, we have been here before, Jurassic Park is a legendary name, we have a fabulous director in Colin Trevorrow and a large and diverse cast in a globe trotting action film. However that is its downfall, we have a long exposition that takes an eternity to travel to the climax at the Biosyn Headquarters. There are many characters who are located all around the world who all must have their own backstory for the film to make any sense. These numerous characters are all vying for the top spot but none can do it with the others there.
The story goes something like this: dinosaurs roam the world with humans, Owen Grady and Claire Dearing are protecting Maise. The film has an eternal exposition where the numerous characters around the globe must all have their backstories fleshed out, and in summary Maise is kidnapped along with her parallel being Blue the velociraptor. She is transported back to Biosyn HQ. Meanwhile the scores of main characters all consolidate in various ways at the center of the climax, Biosyn. DNA from the world ending Locus is collected and we see the eventual rescue of Maisie and Blue. Because of the Numerous main characters we lack a leader. Chris Pratt as Owen Grady and Sam Neil as Alan Grant are both obvious choices because of their experience with dinosaurs, however they seem to not assume the role. Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire Dearing is another who could have assumed the role of leader, but yet again she seems to be the mother of the group.
So, the plot. It is a run of the mill corporate greed story. It has so many different aspects and locations that all have different subplots. The narrative is simple enough and once all of the characters have converged on the Biosyn headquarter, the action is average with a few jumpscares. I think the director's intention was to harp back to parts of the older Jurassic park films, without relying on them as he said in an interview. However the action is underwhelming and because of the long exposition we have a short climax. There are plot twists after plot twists which keep you on your toes. I don’t think the director's intention was achieved because we experienced lackluster action and even after all of the plot twists there was a short climax, minimal falling action and an even shorter resolution. I also believe that the dinosaurs take a backseat in the movie because of the large cast and crowded plot, they became almost ornaments in the background of their own film.
In summary, the movie had everything going for it, but because of the colossal cast and bloated plot the dinosaurs take a back seat in the movie about themselves. The action is lackluster and we see a far too long exposition which takes us on a globe trotting ride. The climax was too short and we saw a minimal falling action and resolution. I think the narrative of a corporate plot was a good idea but was seemingly thrown together. For a movie with a budget that trumps all the rest (185 million) of the Jurassic Parks it was a surprising mishmash of ideas. To sum it up we saw a movie built upon a franchise about dinosaurs, however the dinosaurs took the backseat of the film as ornaments. I give this film 2.5 out of 5 stars.
