KAUPAPA:
What is the purpose of this course?
Disciplinary learning that comes from this course
Two different & diverse approaches to art making (sculpture & painting).
Sculpture: students study traditional and contemporary figurative sculpture and model small figures over a wire armature using an air dry clay material. These are ultimately finished with paint to describe a bronze effect.
Painting: students gain an understanding of the modernist period in art making and produce a cubist style painting based on the study of an artist model.
COSTS:
Students will be charged for a workbook and for any field trips to cover transport etc.
Total costs over the year will be $100.
Art will involve drawing processes as a tool for recording and investigating ideas. Students will experience a variety of drawing approaches specific to the unit of work being covered. Units include Sculpture, Painting & Photography and will be based on both contemporary and traditional art making.
The recycled cardboard sculpture unit requires the students to make initial 3D plan drawings of their proposed sculpture before constructing them using cardboard and hot glue, this has been a favourite unit of work for many students over the years and the art room has some outstanding examples of this work displayed.
