KAUPAPA:
Students who select this course will be looking to strengthen their numeracy skills to enable them to understand and engage with content from across the curriculum. It is design to complement the work that they are doing with their Mathematics teacher in their Mathematics class.
Students will develop their confidence in all aspects of numeracy, as the learning undertaken connects with contexts being studied across their other subjects.
Particular focus is placed on ensuring students are well prepared for the Year 10 NCEA Common Assessment Activities for numeracy. Which is a co-requisite for the NCEA qualification.
Students will develop knowledge of the mathematical foundations needed to be able to cope with the requirements of NCEA.
This course focuses on conceptual Numeracy skills in context. The context comes from real-life situations where numbers are involved. It is practical, life-skill based learning that focuses the learner on meeting the requirements of the Numeracy corequisite of the NCEA qualification.
Learners credited with the Numeracy co-requisite standards can:
formulate mathematical and statistical approaches to solving problems in a range of meaningful situations
use mathematics and statistics to meet the numeracy demands of a range of meaningful situations
explain the reasonableness of mathematical and statistical responses to situations.
