KAUPAPA:
To prepare students for their financial lives as they grow older - focusing on key financial ideas that they may not understand or have encountered.
Enhance contextual numeracy and literacy skills - applying mathematics to real-world contexts, and understanding vocabulary related to the financial world.
This course introduces students to aspects of personal financial literacy and enterprise. Students will learn the fundamentals of personal finances, ranging from payslips and bank accounts to taxes and Kiwisaver.
Students will also focus on business aspects like product design and marketing, managing profit/loss, setting goals, and managing risk.
Students will complete a number of practical/project based tasks in groups including: developing a product to solve a problem, marketing a product and the finances associated with running a small enterprise.
Students can extend this project further and enter the nationwide Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) competition in Year 12.
