KAUPAPA:
The course develops the students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, based on the required topic areas. There are no set topics at senior levels but students learn a variety of topics such as:
the land wars
the status of te reo Māori
Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori (the Māori Language Commission)
urbanisation, assimilation, and resistance
global travel and exploration
social work, community service and teaching
the tourism industry
working and finding work
YEAR 12 PREREQUISITES:

YEAR 13 PREREQUISITES:
Year 12 Te Reo Māori
YEAR 12 COURSE CONTENT:
In Year 12, students can:
communicate about future plans
offer and respond to advice, warnings and suggestions
express and respond to approval and disapproval, agreement and disagreement
offer and respond to information and opinions, giving reasons
read about and recount actual or imagined events in the past.
YEAR 13 COURSE CONTENT:
In Year 13, students can:
communicate about certainty and uncertainty, possibility and probability
develop an argument or point of view, with reasons
recount a series of events to inform, persuade or entertain
communicate the same information in different ways for different audiences
respond to selected and adapted texts in te reo Māori that are about te reo and tikanga Māori, for example, texts from recorded speeches, literature, film, newspapers, magazines, television, video, DVD and radio.
NB: For both Year 12 and 13, Students must attend events such as Manu Kōrero, and workshops, films and tikanga events. There may be possible wānanga offered depending on availability.
YEAR 12 and 13 COSTS:
Students will be charged for a workbook (cost TBC) and for any class trips to cover transport etc.

FUTURE STUDIES / CAREER OPTIONS:
Most professional career pathways in Aotearoa want people to have had some exposure to te ao Māori. Examples could include - governance roles including public policy, education, criminal justice/law, health and medicine, and social services.
Most organisations now have roles dedicated to working with Māori communities and/or addressing Māori interests.
