KAUPAPA:
Year 12 Agricultural and Environmental Science focuses in-depth analysis of two fundamentals of farming animals - Growth and Development and Reproduction, before focussing upon the land and some of the major environmental issues and how to best manage them and diversification and land-use.
Disciplinary learning that comes from this course: Through studying Agricultural and Environmental Science students will be able to communicate and explain scientific and agricultural ideas in depth and be able to evaluate and make decisions based on 'best practice'.
There is a strong literacy focus and developing and supporting the skills to write and communicate their responses and ideas effectively has long been at the core of success in this subject.
In Agriculture we aim to provide a range of assessment opportunities and formats, from presentations, investigations, reports and exams.
YEAR 12 PREREQUISITES:
Year 11 Agriculture or Year 11 Science
YEAR 12 COURSE CONTENT:
Students will learn about the factors that affect Animal Growth and Development, Animal Reproduction and Environmental Impacts.
Students will demonstrate understanding of Maori values in Primary Production and land use such as tūhononga, manaakitanga and tiakitanga.
YEAR 13 COURSE CONTENT:
Students will learn about the factors that affect Production Profitability; Environmental Impacts and Production Attributes.
YEAR 12 COSTS:
Students will be charged for a workbook and for any field trips to cover transport etc.
Total costs over the year will be $100.
