KAUPAPA:
Year 11 German delivers a broad range of language and vocabulary.
The NCEA website states that "Students develop language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing by studying German. They can communicate and connect meaningfully with German-speaking communities."
"Students will discover and make connections to the rich histories, customs, and cultures of German-speaking communities. For example, students can make linguistic and cultural connections between German-speaking communities and Māori and Pacific cultures, or their own."
In Year 11 there is a strong emphasis on the acquisition and improvement of oral language competence.
PREREQUISITES:
Year 10 German as a full year course.
COURSE CONTENT:
Students will learn about familiar topics as well as history and culture.
In Year 11 students will learn to:
communicate about past activities.
communication about present and past states, feelings and opinions.
communicate about past habits
describe, compare and contrast people places and things
give and follow instructions
communicate about problems and solutions
communication about immediate plans hopes wishes and intentions.
communicate in formal situations.
Students will attend events such as TalkFest, and workshops, films and cultural events. There may be possible exchanges offered depending on availability.
COSTS:
Students will be charged for events as they arrive.
Students will be charged a fee for a workbook (cost tbc)

FUTURE STUDIES / CAREER OPTIONS:
Most professional career pathways want people to have had some exposure to languages. Examples could include - governance roles including public policy, education, criminal justice/law, health and medicine, and social services.
