The Elementary Digital Literacy Curriculum consists of five lessons designed to be completed in the first few days of school.
Be sure to make a copy of each lesson for your own personal use.
This is a short video of a book that describes strategies for learning online from home.
It uses "kid-friendly" language to connect online learning and classroom instruction.
Lesson 1 - Chromebook Orientation
This provides information on parts of a Chromebook, using Chromebooks appropriately, and caring for Chromebooks. This should be done when handing out the Chromebook.
Have students do the lesson with you as you are presenting the slideshow - there are embedded opportunities for practice and student interaction.
Students should use their own Chromebooks and the lesson should be assigned in Google Classroom (you may want to use the “join Google Classroom” slides from Lesson 2).
Consider using this lesson back-to-back with Lesson 2 - there is some overlap.
Lesson 2 - Logging into Google Classroom
This lesson teaches students how to join and use Google Classroom.
Students will practice logging on, using the stream, finding classwork, finding and submitting assignments, viewing work, using the “to do” list, and making comments.
The format is a scavenger hunt where students will practice the skills after modeling.
This lesson will need to be edited by the teacher to reflect your own Google Classroom.
This lesson can be broken up into multiple sittings if it runs long.
Consider using this lesson back-to-back with Lesson 1 - there is some overlap.
Your Google Meet will need to be set up in Google Classroom prior to completing this lesson.
Students will see how to join a Google Meet and practice doing so.
Students will identify appropriate behavior when participating in a Google Meet.
This link includes a printable poster with Google Meet expectations.
This lesson teaches students how to access their school email accounts in G Suite.
Students will learn how to access their email, email vocabulary, and how to create and send an email.
Interactive activities are embedded throughout the lesson.
Students will practice writing an email to their teacher.
This lesson teaches students how to log onto enVision 2.0 from Google Classroom or Powerschool.
It shows how to access and view different types of activities (videos, quick checks, practice buddy, assessments, games, and interactive textbook pages).
Individual slides can be used as needed to explain how to submit work using enVision 2.0.
The teacher should assign something in enVision 2.0 to Google Classroom prior to starting the lesson so that students can practice (a video is recommended to start).
