Community Transitions is a unique program that provides an opportunity for students with disabilities to continue their educational programming in the community. Often, students still have educational needs past a traditional four year experience. However, those needs aren’t always met best in a traditional school building. Community Transitions staff help support students develop a schedule that they will continue into their adult life. Families are also connected to adult agencies and services.
Students in Community Transitions have an individualized day. This means they may start their morning at 8:30am at a job site. Or, maybe they start at the Monroe County Public Library at 9am. During the day, they may meet friends for lunch or ride the bus to the YMCA. Each student has a day based on their interests and educational needs.
