Eligibility
Eligibility
This guide will help you in determining your eligibility to become a member of The Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of Arkansas and the General Society of Mayflower Descendants.
Applicants must submit proof of lineage documentation with their application form. The best documentation is the vital records of your ancestors. These include but may not be limited to birth, marriage, and death certificates of each person. Other documentation may be acceptable such as published genealogies, census and other official records. Sources for this type of information are too voluminous to be listed here. Most libraries, various genealogical associations, including those on the Internet may be able to provide assistance. Here are some free Genealogy Resources that may help. The State Historian of your State Society of Mayflower Descendants may be able to provide limited assistance also, or the State Historian may direct you to a person who can.
If you have documentation that leads you to believe you may be descended from a Pilgrim and are over 18 years of age you may be eligible to join the Society for Membership. If you are under 18 years of age then you may be eligible for Junior Membership.
If you have a blood relative who is a member of the Society they may be able to provide you with a copy of their lineage paper which will greatly reduce the magnitude of your task.
NOTE: If the relative's lineage was approved prior to 1984 you may be required to submit additional or upgraded documentation.
If you believe you are ready to apply for membership, or soon will be, click on the Application Process to proceed to Membership Application. Good luck, and we would love to have you!
