With a beautifully restored 1815 historic building and 9 acres of land which was once a plantation, guests are invited to learn about generations of families, both free and enslaved, who lived and labored at Historic Rosedale. Join us for guided house tours and/or stroll the grounds for a self-guided garden tour.

Visit the circa 1779 Hugh Torance House & Store, a unique and extravagant Federal-style home with original architectural features. Experience a guided living history tour by our historians, exploring the oldest standing store in North Carolina, operated from 1805 to 1825 by James Torrance. The house is furnished with period pieces, and the store displays items from 1825. Support restoration by shopping for local goods and gifts. Open for self-guided tours and shopping every Sunday from 1–4pm, with guided tours at 2pm. Check our website for special events, tour reservations, and private group tours.

Kings Mountain Historical Museum is housed in our town’s historic 1940 WPA Post office, and features two changing exhibits a year on local and regional history, an annual Christmas trains exhibit, and various living history programs like our annual WW2 Day and Spirit of Christmas Past Day. KMHM is also the home of two local historic houses – the early 19th century Barber cabin and the late 19th century Cornwell house, open select times of the year.

The President James K. Polk State Historic Site is home to the birthplace of the 11th President and the only Chief-of-State born in Mecklenburg County. Located just a few minutes outside of Charlotte, the site sits on 21 of the original 150 acres owned by President Polk's father, Samuel.
The Price of Freedom Museum began in a Texaco station on the 20th anniversary of the end of WWII. From there the collection of military memorabilia moved to a former school and now to a dedicated building that also houses a collection of military vehicles.
