How many points do I need to renew my five-year license?
You need 180 points to renew a five-year license. See the MCPS Licensure Renewal Checklist above for details.
How much does it cost to renew my license?
MCPS pays the fee for current employees to renew their license, so there is no cost to the employee.

Do I have to complete the statutory requirements every time I renew?
Yes, these are required to be completed during each renewal cycle.
Do I have to do the Virginia History of State and Local Government module?
If you have one of the endorsements listed in https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home/showpublisheddocument/5992/638005597848616017, you are required to complete the online module for renewal.
When is my licensure renewal packet due? Who do I give it to?
Packets are accepted beginning in January and are due by spring break. Licensure renewal materials go to the license advisor for review and then come to Miss Hunley at the SBO for processing and submission to VDOE.
What do I need to do to add an endorsement to my current license?
This process varies and has to be determined on a case-by-case basis. Contact Miss Hunley, who will guide you through this process and will submit any requests to VDOE on your behalf.
I don't have a license, but I want to become a teacher. What do I need to do to get a license?

How long will it take to hear back on my request for a license or to add an endorsement? How will they contact me?
Anywhere from 6-12 weeks, depending on the amount of requests VDOE has at any given time. You will receive a letter at your home address with the outcome of the evaluation.
