Gertrude Thompson Scribner Maradufu

Gertrude was an honor student and the valedictorian of her graduating class at the historical Mather School in Beaufort, South Carolina. While a boarding student there she had the honor of meeting and talking with the renowned educator and civil rights activist, Ms. Mary McLeod Bethune. She attended and graduated from The Mather School in the late 1940’s. After graduation she went on to New York City where she was employed at the United Nations for more than 15 years, after which she moved to, and settled in Washington, DC where she was employed at the Tanzania Embassy until retirement. Gertrude is the aunt of Matherites Dorothy Johnson Giddens HS ‘58 and Vernell Thompson Young HS ‘60.
