I am delighted to be teaching Social Studies at Mater Christi Middle School! I have taught Social Studies, Humanities, and Language Arts in public schools before joining the Mater Christi Family thirteen years ago. Each year, I become more passionate about sharing my knowledge and interests in exploring the history and cultures of our diverse world. This past year, we celebrated our Middle School Team's win of the State Geography Bee. It's a first for our school and we will continue to study and learn about our planet as well as the geopolitical globe.
This year, I traveled to California and Italy on my school breaks and learned more about ancient cultures! Did you know that the Palm Springs Art Museum (https://www.psmuseum.org/) hosts a plethora of Pre-Columbian artifacts? I was able to share my research and photos of Aztec, Zapotec and other Mesoamerican cultures' pottery and statutes of their prominent figures with my ancient history students. My Italy trip to the region of Puglia uncovered the prehistoric Trulli stuctures. (https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/787/ Made from limestone, these prehistoric structures continue to stand today and the newer 1000 year old structures are still in use. So Cool!
I live in Burlington with husband, Thomas. We have enjoyed traveling the world together exploring art, civilizations, food, and ancient historical sites together. Our three daughters have also inherited the travel bug. Marcella, Elena, & Bianca are pictured here at a concert with us at Shelburne Museum! As a family we enjoy listening to live music and traveling around the globe to learn more about our ever evolving world and to appreciate the beauty of the planet.
My personal hobbies and activities include paddle boarding, sailing, and swimming in Lake Champlain. I'm always reading fiction and non-fiction! I love arts & crafts so I always have a sewing project on hand. You'll see me riding my bike to school, skating on the rink, and embracing the outdoors as much as possible. I also teach yoga and cycling classes at the Y & UVM. In the summer you'll find me working at the Myers Memorial Pool in Winooski and broadcasting on WRUV 90.1 FM (wruv.org) on Wednesdays from 2:00-4:00pm
