This project aims to create new, innovative, sensory, and inclusive methodologies for teaching Mathematics through the visual arts, music and dance in the Elementary Education at the CIEP Ministro Gustavo Capanema and the Escola Municipal Medalhista Olímpico Lucas Saatkamp (Maré, Rio de Janeiro).
The methodology is based on the studies of the Canadian project Junior Undiscovered Math Prodigies (JUMP Math) -- a structured, evidence-based mathematics teaching approach -- led by the mathematician and playwright John Mighton, as well as on the Foundations of Dance developed by Helenita Sá Earp within the context of integrated arts.
JUMP has the merit of unlocking both adults and children in relation to mathematics, making it more connected to everyday life, strengthening self-esteem, and providing tools necessary for social life. The aforementioned studies indicate that many children are hindered in their learning and subsequent development in mathematics when they do not fully understand the foundations of logical-mathematical thinking. Mathematical topcis are explored creatively, with a focus on empowering elementary school children.
